Energy Drinks

The energy drinks category is believed by many to be relatively young, however Lucozade was originally launched in 1929 as a hospital drink for ‘aiding the recovery’.

The massive growth came in 2002 with the launch of Red Bull which currently accounts for nearly 45% of the energy drink market, mainly consumed by 18 – 34 year olds as a straight drink or a mixer.

Combined with the power drinks used by many athletes to boost performance, this means the category size is now in excess of 620 million litres per annum.
